What Is Medical Oncology?
Medical oncology is the medical specialty that focuses on the treatment of cancer. Medical oncologists offer a wide range of services that encompass many aspects of cancer care. These services include chemotherapy chemotherapy, hormone therapy, biologic therapy and cancer symptom management. Many medical oncologists also treat blood disorders such as anemia, clotting disorders and bleeding disorders. Most referrals to medical oncologists are made once a cancer or blood problem has been detected by other physicians such as primary care providers or surgeons.
